The chart you see above is a River Gauge at a point on the White River that runs through most of the state of Indiana. As you can see, heavy rainfall caused a HUGE rise in river depth which led to disaster and flooding for many people who lived along the river. Consequently, there were many people who found themselves in the middle of a natural disaster with no emergency plan. Severe and sudden flooding forced many people from their homes.
How do I know this? Because I watched it all happen. I was there as the river rose to flood stage levels. I watched first hand as peoples homes flooded. I watched people make big costly mistakes that could have been avoided with just a little pre-planning and preparation. I’ve been posting quite a bit lately about the importance of a Bug Out Plan & Bug Out Scenarios. It’s easy to get comfortable than think that a natural (or mad-made) disaster could never happen. Watching this river ravage people homes and belongings was a stark reminder of the importance of taking the time to put together a Bug Out Plan.
Disasters can and do happen.
